Norfolk State men’s basketball coach Robert Jones announced an initiative Monday afternoon to help teachers in the Tidewater area.
In lieu of the Spartans’ annual back-to-school drive, postponed for this year due to scheduling conflicts, Jones announced that the team will adopt two teachers and classrooms in each city that makes up the 757 area code.
TEACHERS!!! Norfolk Men’s Basketball Program will have an adopt-a-classroom/teacher for the semester! We will donate supplies to 1-2 teachers in every city in the 757 this upcoming school year. Teachers have an under appreciated job and we want to do our part in helping them. pic.twitter.com/m80ynE2P22

“Myself, my staff and my student-athletes are all going to donate school supplies to a teacher who needs them,” Jones said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “You guys work so hard and I know how it is, not having the supplies you need sometimes… this is our way of giving back to a community that gives so much to us.”
Teachers can send Jones a direct message on X to enter the initiative, and others can nominate teachers through the same channels.
