Florida A&M interim President Timothy Beard is attempting to start a new era at the university and is doing it in sweeping style just before the school’s fall semester begins.

Beard, who was tabbed nearly a month ago to replace the resigning Dr. Larry Robinson, wrote a letter to key senior leadership, requesting their resignations or face termination by the end of business Tuesday, according to a report by HBCU Gameday.

“After careful consideration and in consultation with the Board of Trustees, the past University President, and from my observations, I have concluded that a change in our senior leadership team is necessary to move forward more effectively,” Beard wrote in a letter first obtained by Vaughn Wilson of HBCU Gameday.

“I want to reiterate my sincere gratitude for your service and contributions to our university,” the letter continued. “Your leadership during your tenure has left a lasting impact on our institution, and I wish you continued success in your future endeavors.”

Athletic Director Tiffani-Dawn Sykes emailed staff to confirm the change, according to Alison Posey of WCTV in Tallahassee.

Sykes also posted a picture on X, formerly known as Twitter, conveying her feelings about the situation.

Sykes, who would have started her third year as athletic director this fall, was not the only member of senior leadership forced out.

Other positions to resign or be terminated include chief operating officer, provost, general counsel, athletic director, chief of staff, and communications director.

The mass change in leadership is part of a fallout that included a $237 million donor scandal and questions surrounding the hiring processes of the new football and men’s basketball coaches at Florida A&M.
