Former Bowie State football player AJ Lytton was identified as one of three men who perished following a car crash in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Lytton transferred to Bowie State before the start of the 2023 season after spending a year at Penn State and two years at Florida State, respectively.

Lytton was one of three passengers in the car, along with 2024 Minnesota Vikings draft pick Khyree Jackson and former University of Maryland football player Isaiah Hazel.

The three men were all Wise High School football teammates, each graduating one year apart.

Maryland State Police provided a statement detailing the crash that took the lives of the former high school teammates.

According to a statement released by the Maryland State Police, the three vehicles involved in the crash were a silver Infinity Q50, a silver Chevrolet Impala, and a maroon Dodge Charger.

Hazel drove the Dodge Charger, Jackson was the front-seat passenger, and Lytton sat in the back seat.

“The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the silver Infiniti, later identified as Cori Clingman, was traveling northbound on Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue in Prince George’s County,” the statement says. “Investigators believe Clingman attempted to change lanes while driving at a high rate of speed when she struck the Dodge Charger and then struck the Chevrolet Impala. The Charger subsequently traveled off the roadway’s right side and struck multiple tree stumps where the vehicle came to rest.”

Both Jackson and Hazel were pronounced deceased on the scene, while Lytton succumbed to his injuries at the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center.

The occupants of the Infinity and the Impala each came away uninjured.

Alcohol was believed to have played a role in the crash, and the statement concluded that “charges are pending the investigation and consultation with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation.”
