Kevin Granger has been associated with Texas Southern University in some form or another for more than 30 years, and that association will continue as the university’s board of regents approved a contract extension for the Tigers athletic director.
Granger will remain with the school through the 2028-29 athletic and academic year.

“I would like to thank our Board of Regents and President Crawford for having the trust and belief in me to guide our athletic department,” Granger said in a statement from the university. “Texas Southern has played a pivotal part in my life and I’m honored to have the opportunity to keep building on the foundation.
We are coming off another history-making season, both academically and athletically, and my goal is to continue elevating TSU to another level. I want to also thank the student-athletes, university faculty and staff, and athletic staff for working together as a cohesive unit to ensure TSU remains at the forefront in this era of college athletics.”
Granger has been the athletic director at TSU since 2018 and has led the Tigers to success in competition and the classroom. This past season, Texas Southern won its second Southwestern Athletic Conference Academic Progress Award, an honor given to the school with the highest APR (Academic Progress Rate).
The Tigers also earned the C.D. Henry Award, which goes to the SWAC’s best male athletics programs.
