The second day of the Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships ended with two Albany State men’s sprinters and an HBCU 4×400 relay team punching tickets to the finals.
Kibren Moore was the first HBCU athlete to secure a spot in the finals, running in the second of three 200-meter heats. He clocked in a 20.84 second time to clinch the last of eight qualifying spots.
Albany State teammate Ed Gilbert followed in the last heat finishing second among his group (fourth overall) with a 20.70 time to advance to the finals.
Moore and Gilbert will run in the 200-meter final, the individual 100-meter final, and the 4×100 relay final on Saturday.
The 4×100 relay will be the first event on the track, set to begin at 3 p.m. ET. The 100-meter final will be at 4:25 p.m. ET, and the 200-meter final will begin at 5:40 p.m. ET.
Meanwhile, Lincoln University of Missouri’s women’s 4×400 relay team ended the day clinching a spot in the finals.
Lincoln (Mo.) ran a time of 3:35.13 the best time of the field and a near .01 seconds better than the second-best time.
Their time set a new facility record, beating the 3:38.77 record time they previously set in 2022.
Lincoln will compete for the relay championship on Saturday in the last event of the day, which begins at 7 p.m. ET.
