After just one season with the Norfolk State Spartans, reigning MEAC Player of the Year Jamarii Thomas is moving to the SEC.

Having previously committed to play for Virginia Commonwealth University, the former Spartans guard announced that he had flipped his commitment to play for the University of South Carolina.

Thomas came to Norfolk State after spending two years at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

He finished the year averaging 16.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.1 steals. In addition to being named MEAC Player of the Year, he was also selected to the MEAC All-Defensive team.

Though the team came up short in the MEAC tournament, losing to Howard in the semifinals, the Spartans qualified for postseason play, accepting an invitation to play in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT).

Norfolk State would win the tournament after knocking off Alabama A&M and Purdue Fort Wayne, becoming the first HBCU to win a Division I postseason tournament.

Thomas put up 10 points, five assists, and three steals off the bench in the team’s CIT tournament championship win.
