Tomekia Reed has been an important and successful coach in the HBCU basketball ranks and reports indicate that Jackson State is prepared to do what they can to keep her.
Reed, who has led the Lady Tigers to three of the last four Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament titles, has interviewed for the Tulane job and is apparently a candidate on Tennessee’s list, and Jackson State is prepared to offer Reed a new contract, according to a report by J.T. Keith of the Clarion-Ledger.
Reed’s previous contract extension expired Sunday and JSU is preparing a four-year, $1 million dollar contract offer, a source confirmed to HBCU Sports on Tuesday.
Reed has compiled a 126-54 record over six seasons at JSU, including a 95-10 record in conference play. The Tigers have appeared in the 2021, 2022 and 2024 NCAA tournaments and earned the first Associated Press polls votes in program history this season. Jackson State went 26-7 this season and earned a 14 seed in the NCAA tournament, losing to Final Four team UConn 86-64 in the first round.
