MONROE, La. — Grambling State’s women’s basketball team season ended Monday night with a 102-76 defeat against Louisiana-Monroe in the second round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

The loss concluded a remarkable season for first-year head coach Courtney Simmons and the Lady Tigers, who finished the 2023-24 season with a 23-10 overall record and 15-3 in the SWAC. Simmons’ 23 wins matched the record for the most victories by a GSU women’s basketball coach in their debut season, marking the program’s most successful season since 1999-2000.

Jazmyne Jackson led Grambling State with 23 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point range, and was perfect from the free-throw line. She also contributed five rebounds, two steals, and an assist.

The Lady Tigers started strong, taking a 5-2 lead early in the first period. However, after extending their lead to 7-4, ULM went on a 17-2 run to take a 21-9 lead, eventually leading 23-11 at the end of the first quarter.

ULM expanded its lead in the second quarter by as much as 48-28 before halftime. The Warhawks dominated in the third quarter, extending their lead to 81-48.

Grambling State outscored ULM 28-21 in the final period despite the deficit.

Key statistics from the game include:
Grambling State shot 33.3% from the floor.
52.6% from three-point range.
69.2% from the free-throw line.

Kahia Warmsley added 14 points, and Douthshine Prien scored 11 points. Amanda Blake grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds in her final game for GSU. ULM shot 46.6% from the field and 44.4% from three-point range.

ULM outrebounded GSU 52-42 and scored 48 points in the paint. Jakayla Jackson led ULM with 30 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
