The Fayetteville State Broncos run in the Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament has ended following a 72-47 loss to Gannon in the Sweet 16.

Fayetteville State came into this game riding a 16-game win streak, including wins over Indiana (PA) and Fairmont State in the first two rounds.

Talia Trotter led the team with 12 points, hitting two three-pointers, making her the only player for the Broncos to score in double figures.

CIAA Player of the Year Aniylah Bryant had a rough outing, scoring a season-low six points on 2-of-11 shooting, though she did snag five steals.

Morgan Graham did her best to help her team defensively, recording three steals and three blocks in the game.

What a wonderful season!! Gannon wins with a score of 72-47 over the Broncos. The Broncos end the season 29-3. We are so proud of you!! 💙🩶🏀 pic.twitter.com/0rSh2zcS3X

With 3:52 left in the first quarter, Trotter hit a three-pointer to give Fayetteville State an 11-9 lead. That would be the last time the Broncos would have the lead all game as Gannon answered with a three of their own, giving them the advantage for the rest of the contest.

Fayetteville State was dominated on the glass, getting out-rebounded 49-36, including allowing 13 offensive boards, which led to 14 second-chance points.

In addition, they were outscored 38-21 in the second half, with Gannon getting hot from three-point range, hitting 7-of-16 attempts.

The Broncos’ season ends falling one win shy of 30 wins, posting an overall record of 29-3.
