For the first time since his devastating injury in the HBCU Legacy Bowl, North Carolina Central quarterback Davius Richard has provided a public statement.

In the statement, Richard gave special thanks to his agent and the New Orleans medical staff for taking care of him and to everyone who supported him in the aftermath of his injury.

“I would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming amount of support and prayers following my injury during the HBCU Legacy Bowl,” said the two-time MEAC Offensive Player of the Year. “As a Man of Faith, I understand wholeheartedly that no weapon formed against thee shall prosper.”

Thank you to everyone for your love and support. Romans 8:28

He finished saying, “I remain optimistic and in good spirits on the road to recovery and journey back to the field. This is just a test in my testimony.”

The 2024 co-Deacon Jones Trophy winner suffered a leg injury on the opening offensive possession of the game, getting his leg caught under him on a tackle as he ran the ball into the end zone for a touchdown.

In a strongly worded tweet, Davis’ coach, Trei Oliver, criticized the game’s coaches for calling a quarterback run on the goal line. He has since apologized for the language in the tweet and deleted it.

There is no official report on how much time Richard is expected to miss.
