Lincoln University has officially named Jason A. Armstrong as its 23rd head men’s basketball coach, following his successful stint as the interim head coach, the school announced Friday.
Armstrong was appointed interim head coach in June 2022, succeeding two seasons as the associate head coach, a 17-15 record, and an unprecedented trip to the CIAA Tournament championship game, a first in the University’s history.
“Jason’s demonstrated leadership, recruiting expertise, and ability to cultivate our young men into athletes were key factors in his official appointment,” said Lincoln AD Harry Stinson III.
Reacting to his official appointment, Armstrong said, “I am honored and grateful for the trust placed in me by President Brenda Allen and Athletics Director Harry Stinson. We made history last season, and while the final outcome wasn’t what we hoped, the experience has fueled a hunger in our players that I believe will propel us forward.”
Armstrong’s coaching career spans various levels, beginning at the Riverside Church Hawks AAU Program in Harlem, moving to La Salle Academy High School, then to Bloomfield College before his seven-year stint at Dominican College. He was named among the Top 10 D2 Black Assistant Coaches in the country by the Minority Coaches Association in 2020.
A former player himself, Armstrong’s basketball career started at LaSalle Academy High School and continued at Dominican College. He concluded his player journey at the University of the District of Columbia, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. Armstrong later worked at BET before venturing into coaching.
“Our goal is to build on the success started by Coach Corey Lowery. I am excited to elevate Lincoln University’s program academically and athletically, aiming for pride and distinction both on and off the court,” Armstrong said.
