Alabama State has a date with SEC power Alabama in the NCAA baseball tournament.
If Alabama State (41-16), winners of the SWAC East Division for the second straight season, run the table in the upcoming conference baseball tournament, the Hornets are projected to face No. 24 Alabama in the Tuscaloosa Regional of the 64-team field, according to D1Baseball.com projection.
The regional would also include Southern Miss and Arizona State.
Alabama State is riding on a high after it rallied to score five runs in the bottom of the ninth on Thursday to defeat Florida A&M 9-8 on the second day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament.
“We talk about being resilient. The entire year, we’ve played a full nine innings. It’s about being competitive until that last out. We competed all the way. It was fun to watch and be a part of it,” Alabama State baseball head coach Jose Vazquez said.
The Hornets will play the Rattlers Friday afternoon in a rematch.
