The Jackson State Tigers may be on the verge of losing yet another piece of their SWAC championship offense.
Wide receiver and special teams contributor Willie Gaines announced he is entering the transfer portal.
Gaines transferred to Jackson State from Dodge City Community College. He finished the 2022 season with 27 receptions for 446 receiving yards and scored five touchdowns.
He also led the team with 169 punt return yards on 21 attempts.

Gaines is now the fourth Jackson State receiver from last season to enter the transfer portal this offseason among a list that includes Kevin Coleman, Travis Hunter and Shane Hooks.
In addition to Dallas Daniels, who declared for the 2023 NFL Draft, the Tigers will now be without each of their four leading receivers from last year.
Finding new receivers to fill in for those lost to the transfer portal can be added to Jackson State’s offseason to-do list.
The team is also looking for a starting quarterback and awaiting a decision from running back Sy’Veon Wilkerson, who has been to be away from the team this spring.
