Veterans Memorial Stadium will play host to Jackson State home game and a neutral site interdivisional matchup featuring the SWAC East versus the SWAC West.
On Monday, the City of Jackson announced the last week of September has been designated a “Soul-Filled Weekend.”
It all starts on Sept. 25 when Jackson State takes on Division II power Delta State in the W.C. Gordon Classic. The following day, on Sept. 26, the newly-formed Delta-Bayou Classic will feature Mississippi Valley State and Southern.
“We are honored to host the Soul-Filled Weekend in Jackson,” said Visit Jackson President and CEO Rickey Thigpen. “The double-header football weekend featuring SWAC and in-state rivalries and ancillary activities will create excitement and synergy for our football fans and economic vitality for our community.”

Over 20,000 fans are expected to attend each game, with additional visitors and locals attending other weekend events, Thigpen said.
Jackson was chosen to host the unique double-header because the location “is easily accessible at the intersection of I-55 and I-20, with a host of hotels and restaurants, shopping venues, and cultural attractions ready to welcome fans,” a news release states.
The “Soul-Filled Weekend” is estimated to bring $15 million in economic impact to the city and surrounding area, officials said.
