A SWAC East contest that held conference championship game implications will not be played.
Saturday’s scheduled Alabama A&M-Mississippi Valley State game has been canceled because of COVID-19 infections within the Delta Devils program.
“The Delta Devil football team was scheduled to close out the spring season with a home contest against Alabama A&M, but due to Covid-19 protocols the contest has been canceled,” Mississippi Valley State officials said in a statement.
The game was one of two to be played this week that would have decided home-field advantage in the SWAC Championship Game on May 1.
Alabama A&M — winners of the SWAC East — was tied in the overall league standings with SWAC West champion Arkansas-Pine Bluff. With common opponents being one of the tiebreaker scenarios, the Bulldogs needed to beat Mississippi Valley by at least eight points to host the conference title game.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff is slated to host Texas Southern at 3 p.m. Saturday. A win would clinch home-field for the Golden Lions.
The cancelation is the 11th SWAC game impacted by COVID-19 this season.
