A week after losing by 53 points in its season opener to Jackson State, Edward Waters College is reportedly making a significant coaching change.

WJXT-Channel 4 (Jacksonville, Fla.) reporter Cole Pepper reported Sunday that head coach Greg Ruffin might be out of a job.

Pepper based the assertion on a recent post found on the school’s website that indicated the college is currently seeking a head football coach.

The post, dated Feb. 26, lists what appears to be an open job as a “priority” accompanied by a full summary of the position.

The school, according to News4Jax, had not officially announced Ruffin’s status with the program, saying “We cannot comment on personnel matters at this time.”

It was later confirmed Sunday night through reporting by the Florida Times-Union that Ruffin was indeed out and would be replaced by defensive coordinator Joseph Carter on an interim basis.

Carter, who joined Edward Waters in 2020, previously spent 12 seasons at Tuskegee as a safeties coach and defensive coordinator.

Ruffin concludes his two-plus year stint at Edward Waters with a 5-18 overall record.
