Joseph (Joey) Neal Graham II, a Virginia Union University incoming freshman and a National Letter of Intent Signee won the Junior Division of the 2020 Southern Maryland Amateur with a score of 149 (75/74). The Southern Maryland Amateur was contested at the Breton Bay Golf and Country Club in Southern Maryland. Breton Bay Golf and Country Club is a member-owned semi-private country club featuring a premier 18-hole golf course overlooking Breton Bay.

The Southern Maryland Amateur Golf Tournament was founded in June 1978 by Leonard Ferris, Sr., to be a premier Breton Bay Men’s Golf Association event. His dream was to create a top-notch men’s amateur tournament, having the Breton Bay Golf course in pristine condition and offering golfers in Southern Maryland an affordable and challenging experience.

The Breton Bay Golf and Country Club is a 6,764 yards par 72 layout. The championship was scheduled to be a 54-hole stroke play event open to the first 180 amateur golfers who enter. Play took place over the beautiful Breton Bay Golf and Country Club Friday through Sunday, July 31 through August 2nd. Saturday’s round was canceled due to inclement weather and reduced the tournament to a 36-hole championship.

“I am excited to welcome Joey to Virginia Union University, (Class of 2024) and as a freshman member of the VUU Golf Team, said Virginia Union Head Golf Coach E. Lee Coble. “He will be a great addition to the team.”
