ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Redshirt freshman Corey Fields threw for a game 14-of-30-1 for 284-yards and a touchdown but fell short in a late rally to knock off #16 N.C. A&T State 22-20 Saturday (Nov. 2nd) at Oliver. C. Dawson Stadium/Willie Jeffries Field.
Senior wide receiver De’Montrez Burroughs had a career-day receiving with eight (8) catches for 168-yards and a touchdown. South Carolina State finished with 379-yards total offense on the day.
“It was a tough loss and I thought we played well together as a team,” said Fields. “We have to learn from our mistakes and pick up the pieces and get things back on track.”
Pough stated, “I thought we had a great game plan and really played well. You basically have a young team playing against a championship team.”
Junior running back Omar Cummings had a solid performance on offense with three (3) catches for 73-yards along with Rodriques Thomas with three (3) for 45-yards.
Senior linebacker Chad Gilchrist led the way on defense with eight solo tackles, while redshirt sophomore Jalen Barr added seven and Decobie Durant and Duane Nichols with six each in the loss.
Graduate student Cliff Benjamin, Jr. produced five punts for 191-yards (38.2) with a long of 57-yards two inside the 20 and one touchback.
South Carolina State returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 9th) at home when they host Howard University in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contest. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPN3.

DeMontrez Burroughs had a career high where was Mac McCain if he is the best defender on the Aggies why wasn’t he on this guy is he still injured.
Where was Shaquan Davis he should have been a go to guy in this game as well with his obvious size advantage of 6-5 200.I thought he would be the primary target for Bulldog QBs.I was hoping that I could see a matchup with Davis and McCain.I said to other ppl that they are NFL material.
