Based on the quality of performances we witnessed in HBCU halftime shows from the past weekend, one wouldn’t think that it was only the first week of the college football season.

There were plenty of performances to consider, due in large part to the National Battle of the Bands exhibition in Houston.

But we wanted to keep the focus on those shows that performed during the halftime of football games.

Here are the top five HBCU halftime shows from Week 1.

5. Bethune-Cookman (vs. Jackson State)
Performed at Georgia State Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia

4. Prairie View A&M (vs. Texas Southern)
Performed at BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston, Texas

3. Jackson State (vs. Bethune-Cookman)
Performed at Georgia State Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia

2. North Carolina A&T (vs. Elon)
Performed at Aggie Stadium, Greensboro, N.C.

1. Grambling State (vs. Louisiana-Monroe)
Performed at Malone Stadium, Monroe, Louisiana

The lies! How did A&T make that list ?? did you actually watch the show? Lines are crooked, and the sound was bland. Don’t even get me started on the A&T symbol they tried to make. It was terrible.

No way JSU or GSU’s halftime show was better than PV’s.

Gsu an JSU shows were more entertaining and their drilling was better. PV shows haven’t been the same in a long time as they use to be. Pv stands were great but their shows get boring at the dance routine part. You can’t make out their songs only playing one bar then horns hit the gtound

Line line line, diamond diamond diamond, same ole drills from the other bands… I’ll take PVs show any day.

And I just watched Grams again and their dance routine is all Tubas just like most bands. Might as well put your horns down because they weren’t playing them.
