CHICAGO — The 2019 STATS FCS Preseason All-America Team was announced on Tuesday, with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) landing six players across the three squads.
North Carolina A&T State senior offensive lineman Marcus Pettiford highlights the MEAC contingent, earning Second Team honors on offense. He’s joined on the Second Team by teammate, and junior defensive back, Mac McCain III.
Four MEAC student-athletes are on the Preseason All-America Third Team — led by Howard senior wide receiver Jequez Ezzard, a 2018 First Team All-MEAC selection. Three more players were on the Third Team under the Special Teams heading, including Florida A&M punter Chris Faddoul and Bethune-Cookman return specialist Jimmie Robinson.
Howard’s Caylin Newton, the 2018 MEAC Offensive Player of the Year and 2019 MEAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, was named to the STATS FCS Preseason All-America Third Team as an athlete, despite having played his entire collegiate career to this point at the quarterback position.
Pettiford, McCain, Ezzard, Newton, and Faddoul were all First Team All-MEAC honorees in 2018, while Robinson was a Second Team selection.
