EAST GREENSBORO — Both North Carolina A&T outdoor track and field teams are in the top-25 nationally. The United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association released its recent poll this week.

The North Carolina A&T women’s track and field team made a huge jump after big-time performances from freshman Cambrea Sturgis and senior Kayla White at the LSU Alumni Gold hosted by Louisiana State.

The Aggies jumped up 33 spots to No. 16 in the nation thanks to Sturgis running the second fastest 200-meter time in the world thus far this year at 22.71. White ran the third-fastest time in the world right behind Sturgis with a 22.74. White also has the fastest 100 m time in the nation at 11.04 recorded at the Florida Relays on March 28.

Junior Trevor Stewart propelled the men one spot from last week’s No. 18 ranking. Stewart ran the second-fastest time in the world in the 400 m by finishing first at the LSU Alumni in 44.54. It was his personal best and a school record.

The Aggie men have three other top-10 times nationally with senior Rodney Rowe ranked fifth in the 100 m at 10.10 (Aggie Invitational). The 4×100-meter relay team is sixth in the nation after using junior Akeem Sirleaf, senior Michael Dickson, Rowe and Stewart to run a 39.14 at LSU. Dickson is ninth nationally in the 110-meter hurdles with a 13.65 completed at the Aggie Invitational at N.C. A&T’s Irwin Belk Track.

Two N.C. A&T women’s times are just outside the top-10. Sturgis has the 11thfastest time in the nation in the 100 m with an 11.24 recorded at the Aggie Invitational. At LSU this past weekend, the team of Sturgis, White, freshman Kamaya Debose-Epps and junior Taliyah Townsend ran a 43.91 in the 4×100 to rank 11th.

The Aggie track teams return to action Saturday when they compete in the Tom Jones Invitational hosted by the University of Florida.

You failed to mention the obvious the 400m time posted by Stewart is not only a school mark but it’s a CONFERENCE MARK which should override the fact of where Stewart attends school.

My mistake I failed to mention that all these marks posted by the A&T track team are CONFERENCE MARKS not just school marks.

Stewart was recently the subject of a article written in TRACK&FIELD MAGAZINE as was the case with TYRELL RICHARD of SOUTH CAROLINA ST.This shows that HBCU TRACK has the talent to run with anyone in the WORLD.

I think that Duane Ross (A&T) should start getting some NATIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR HONORS.
