JACKSON — Chris Prentiss batted in five runs and Jackson State shut out Nicholls State 6-0 Tuesday evening in the home finale for the Tigers at Braddy Field.
JSU improved to 26-18 and NSU falls to 19-21 overall.
Prentiss put the Tigers on board in the bottom of the second with a 3 RBI single and advanced to second base on a fielding error. Prentiss came through again in the bottom of fourth with a 2 RBI triple.
Equon Smith added an RBI later in the fourth inning to cap the scoring.
Mario Lopez was credited with the win. The Miami, Florida native threw 6.0 innings and scattered five hits and allowed no runs and no walks and fanned four batters.
Prentiss finished 3-for-5 and also scored a run and Jaylyn Williams batted 3-for-4.
Raul Hernandez, Dezmond Chumley, Rahman Williams, and Tyler Culpepper each picked up a hit.
JSU returns to SWAC play this weekend for an important series at Alabama State.
