HOUSTON – The Tigers of Texas Southern University will be playing basketball in the postseason as they received an invitation to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT). TSU will face New Orleans at UNO’s Lakefront Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The invite is Texas Southern’s first into the CIT and marks the sixth consecutive season in which the Tigers have played in the postseason.

Both TSU and New Orleans played in their respective conference tournament championship games; New Orleans, the No. 4-seeded team in the Southland Conference, fell 77-60 to No. 2-seeded Abilene Christian.

Wednesday’s matchup against New Orleans will be the first for the Tigers since the 1993-94 season when the Privateers won 80-70 in Houston. TSU is 0-3 all-time against New Orleans, with all three meetings occurring in the early 1990s.

The Tigers are led by Jeremy Combs, who was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Combs averages 16.9 points and a SWAC-best 9.1 rebounds per game; he averaged 20.3 points and 10.4 rebounds per game in conference play.

Both Combs and Jalyn Patterson were named to All-SWAC Tournament Team. Patterson, who averages 12.2 points and 3.9 assists per game this season, averaged 16.3 points per game during the SWAC Tournament.
