Southern University and Dawson Odums have reached an agreement in principle on a contract extension.
Contract terms have yet to be officially announced by the school, but it is expected to be finalized and approved by the Southern University System Board of Supervisors meeting on Thursday.
Odums will remain at Southern on a three-year deal through 2021 with an annual salary of $210,000, according to the agreement. The deal also includes a “Paid Bowl” (Celebration Bowl) incentive that would pay Dawson $20,000 for making an appearance and an additional $20,000 for winning it.
His assistant coaches would also divide $15,000 for winning the postseason contest.
In seven seasons as head coach, Odums has compiled a 50-27 overall record and 43-14 record within SWAC, including two SWAC Championship Game appearances and a league title in 2013.
Following the 2013 season, Odums agreed to a three-year extension at a base salary of $175,000 per season.
