Two HBCU marching bands were featured New Year’s Day during the 130th annual Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif.
Alabama State’s “Mighty Marching Hornets” and Florida A&M’s “Marching 100” joined 20 other marching bands from around the globe in a parade themed “The Melody of Life.”
“Our students continue to be recognized for their hard work and dedication,” ASU’s Band Director Dr. James Oliver said. “We are really excited to see our hard work recognized on a national platform.
Shelby Chipman, Director of Marching and Pep Bands at FAMU, said it was a great honor to be selected and that it will put the spotlight on the university.
This was the first appearance in the Tournament of Roses Parade for both bands. Alabama State led all bands in the parade.
