NEW ORLEANS – The Texas Southern Men’s basketball team fell 77-70 to Tulane Monday evening, as a large second-half deficit was too much to overcome.

Jayln Patterson led the Tigers with 17 points, five steals, and four rebounds. Eden Ewing and Jeremy Combs each scored 12 points for the Tigers as well.

Samir Sehic led the Green Wave with a 28-point, 11-board, two-block performance. Caleb Daniels added 21 points and five rebounds for Tulane and Connor Crabtree scored 11 points.

Texas Southern was forced to play catch-up early on but remained within a couple of buckets of Tulane initially. After Ewing connected on a jumper to cut Tulane’s lead to 16-10 midway through the first the Green Wave put together a 10-3 run to push its lead to double digits.

Derrick Bruce knocked down a transition three-point attempt to bring TSU within eight, but Tulane outscored the Tigers 6-2 to take a 12-point lead into intermission.
Tulane pushed its lead to as many as 21, but Texas Southern showed ultimately chipped away at the lead to get it down to eight with 36 seconds left but fell shy of a comeback.

Texas Southern shot 36.4 percent from the field (24-of-66). The Tigers, who came into the game second in the SWAC with 78 made three points attempts, weren’t able to find their stroke from the arc, making just six of their 32 attempts. Tulane shot 53.8 percent from the field (28-of-52).

The sides were even in rebounding (38-38) and the Tigers got 24 bench points compared to 15 from the Green Wave.
