The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has officially paid off the mortgage on its headquarters property, the conference office announced Wednesday.
The MEAC is the only Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) conference to own its headquarters.
“We are very pleased with being the 100-percent owner of our building, valued at over $1 million,” MEAC Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas said. “We have been very frugal in our expenses and were able to generate positive revenue. We were very fortunate not to have to assess our membership any fees in order to retire the mortgage on the building.”
Located just minutes from Norfolk International Airport, the MEAC office is a one-story, 8,500-square foot facility with ample parking situated in Norfolk Commerce Park along Robin Hood Road. It has served as the conference’s official headquarters since 2010.
“The MEAC made a wise decision many years ago to purchase the building housing its headquarters,” Dr. David Wilson, president of Morgan State University and chair of the MEAC Council of Chief Executive Officers, said. “We are thrilled to now burn the mortgage papers and completely own our facility. The Council of Chief Executive Officers thanks Commissioner Thomas for his stellar stewardship of the MEAC for the last 16 years.”
