Monica Jones named SWA at Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alabama A&M Director of Athletics Bryan Hicks has announced that Monica Jones has been named the department’s Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman’s Administrator.

“We are excited to have Monica on board here at AAMU where she will oversee Academic Enhancement, Business Administration and serve as the Senior Women’s Administrator,” Hicks said. “Our student-athletes, coaches, and staff will truly benefit for having one of our industry’s best in student development.”

Jones has more than 16 years of senior-level experience at the collegiate level, most recently spending the last three years at University of Arkansas – Pulaski Technical College as a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Success Coach and Academic Advisor.

As a STEM Success Coach, Jones was primarily responsible for working closely with students to help ensure their needs were met to promote graduation in their chosen field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. She managed programs about information regarding academic, individual and financial knowledge to promote academic and professional goal achievements in a timely manner.

“I am excited about joining the Alabama A&M family and I look forward to working with our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and campus community,” Jones said. “Thank you to Mr. Hicks and Dr. Andrew Hugine, Jr. for the opportunity to become part of a team which exudes excellence in all they do.”

Prior to the STEM Success Coach, Jones served as an academic advisor were she counseled approximately 1000+ students regarding personal, academic, career and financial issues. She also assisted with on-campus and off-campus recruiting initiatives.

Prior to PTC, Jones spent two years at the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas, were she oversaw the recruiting and admission functions for the Graduate School of Business for incoming students. She was also responsible for managing the department’s recruiting budget and maintaining weekly, monthly and quarterly records to track graduate student admissions to meet program recruiting goals.

Prior to her stint with Walton College, Jones was the Assistant Director of Athletics for Academic and Student Services at Missouri State University and the Associate Director of Student-Athlete Success at the University of Arkansas.

A native of Malvern, Arkansas, Jones earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Arkansas in 1995. Jones completed her Master’s degree in Counseling in 1997 from the University of Arkansas. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Adult and Lifelong Learning at the U of A. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., initiated in 1993 in the Lambda Theta Chapter and was a charter member of the Northwest Arkansas Area Alumnae Chapter.
