A Tennessee State football player was dismissed from the team and expelled from the university after punching the team’s strength and conditioning coach during a recent game.
Senior defensive end Latrelle Lee was involved in an altercation with TSU strength and conditioning coach T.J. Greenstone while on the sideline during last Saturday’s game versus Southeast Missouri.
In a video that has widely circulated online, Lee, who has started two games this season for the Tigers, was captured punching Greenstone, a former Vanderbilt football player, twice in the face before the coach fell to the ground. An explanation for what began the altercation is unknown.

“We, of course, do not condone any act of violence within our department and are very disturbed by the action of one of our students,” TSU athletic director Teresa Phillips said in a statement to The Tennessean. “We are committed to supporting the coach who was personally affected and our concern now is with him.”
Lee, who did not appear in Saturday’s game, played in 36 games during his career. Through nine games this season, games Lee tallied 18 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss.
Lee was majoring in criminal justice and was named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
