Jackson, MS – Herb Edwards rushed 26 times for 163 yards with a touchdown and quarterback Austin Howard completed 15-of-26 passes for 176 yards with a touchdown, and added a rushing touchdown as well, as the visiting Jaguars picked up a 35-17 conference victory against Jackson State on Saturday night after a weather delay of over an hour and a half.
Southern (4-3, 2-1 SWAC) took the lead for good when Kendall Catalon scored on a four-yard run with 6:35 left in the second quarter to help give the Jags a 14-10 advantage.
Edwards helped increase the lead with 21-10 with 10:35 left in the third quarter on a one-yard score.
The Tigers (0-7, 0-3 SWAC) cut into the lead when Miguel James scored on a 29-yard receiving score from Jordan Williams late in the third.
But that’s as close as Jackson State would get as Southern answered with a 6-yard touchdown reception by Jamar Washington from Howard for the game’s final score.
