LAST TIMEOUT
Last Saturday (Sept. 2), the Bison stunned FBS foe UNLV with a 43-40 victory in front of 15,000 fans at Sam Boyd Stadium.
With this victory, Howard picked up its first season opening win in more than a decade, as well as their first victory over an FBS opponent in program history.
According to ESPN, the victory over UNLV has been deemed the biggest upset in college football history.
MATCHUP PREVIEW
Kent State (0-1) enters Saturday’s contest looking to rebound from last week’s loss at Clemson, 56-3. With Paul Haynes recently announcing a medical leave of absence, offensive coordinator Don Treadwell has taken over as interim head coach for the second consecutive week. Kent State returned 53 letter winners, including three All-MAC selections on defense.
For HU (1-0), they look to keep the momentum going as they inch closer to their home opener against Bethune-Cookman (Sept. 23). The duo of freshman Caylin Newton and senior running back Anthony Philyaw spearhead the Bison’s ground attack. Defensively, Leland Lassiter and Tye Freeland look to keep the Golden Flashes out-of-rhythm offensively.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On Sept. 16, Howard goes to Coach London’s alma mater, Richmond, for their final test before conference play. Game-time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
