The Prairie View football team continued training camp with a late Thursday afternoon practice and will start to turn its attention to Saturday’s first fall scrimmage.

“I thought it was another positive day,” said Panthers head football coach Willie Simmons. “I thought we got better. Of course as a coach, you’re always looking for perfection in everything they do. There’s still work to be done in every area. Execution wise, we need to get a little bit better. Conditioning wise and communication wise, we need to get a little bit better. Our effort was there, our intensity was there, and overall it was a good day.

Prairie View A&M will hold their first August scrimmage Saturday at 3:30 p.m., three weeks ahead of the Panthers’ season opener at Texas Southern on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. in Labor Day Classic XXXIII.

“I want to see them compete on Saturday,” Simmons said. “After 10 days, you want to see who can take the plays we call and execute them. We won’t try to put too much on them. The main thing we want to see is who can line up properly, who can make calls, who can execute the plays that are called, and that will give us a barometer of where we are as an offense and defense after Saturday.”
