BALTIMORE, Md. – Coppin State University’s Director of Athletics Derek Carter has announced that the contract of head men’s basketball coach Michael Grant will not be renewed for the 2017-18 season. Grant served three seasons as the Eagles head coach with an overall record of 25-69.
In Grant’s third season, the Eagles went 8-24 overall and 7-9 in MEAC play. At the 2016-17 MEAC Basketball Tournament, Coppin State was eliminated in the opening round by Howard University (79-73). In his first two seasons Grant led the Eagles to two opening round victories during the conference tournament.
Grant finishes his three seasons at Coppin State 25-69 overall, going 19-30 in MEAC games. His 18-year record as a head coach sits at 277-267.
A search for a new coach will begin immediately.
