Baton Rouge, La. – The Southern stormed back with a second half rally by outscoring Jackson State 44-29 after trailing by nine at the break.
Jared Sam made 16-of-21 from the free throw and closed with a game-best 22 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and a block and Shawn Prudhomme added 14 points and eight rebounds.
Southern (15-17) shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half after a slow start where it shot just 33 percent in the opening half.
Four Tigers finished in double digits for points led by Maurice Rivers’ 13 points and seven rebounds for Jackson State (14-18).
The Jaguars advance to play No. 2 Alcorn State on Friday at 8:30 at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX.
