Charlotte, N.C. – The NCAA has announced the pairings for the upcoming 2017 NCAA Atlantic Regional Women’s Basketball Tournament.
The Johnson C. Smith University women’s basketball team has earned the No. 7 seed in the upcoming tournament and will take on No.2 seed Indiana (Pa.) at Hamer Hall on the campus of California University in California Pa. IUP won the PSAC title earlier on Sunday with an 84-79 win over California. Despite the loss, California will host the Atlantic Regional and gained the top-seed.
JCSU (22-7), the 2017 CIAA Champions, will be making the program’s first appearance in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament since 2012 and holds a 2-5 overall record in regional tournament play.
In JCSU’s last appearance in the regional tournament in 2012, the Golden Bulls fell to Gannon University 61-50 in Edinboro, Pa. in the first round.
JCSU reached the championship game of the Atlantic Regional in 2011. In that tournament,
the Golden Bulls downed Glenville State 74-69 in the quarterfinals and followed that with a 78-72 overtime win over West Liberty in the semifinals. JCSU then fell to CIAA rival Shaw University 74-54 in the championship game, ending their 2011 run.
