HUNTSVILLE – The upcoming Southwestern Athletic Conference football season has a major change for its teams: A seven-game league schedule.[lasso align=”right” cart=”y” identifier=”B00Q0D27J8″ locale=”US” tag=”hbcusports-20″ ref=”amzn-college-flags-and-banners-co-alabama-am-bulldogs-garden-flag” type=”single” id=”71913″ link_id=”5298″]
No longer will each team play every other team in the conference. The teams will play everyone in their division and three teams from the other division.
The Bulldogs’ Eastern Division opponents are Alabama State, Alcorn State, Jackson State and Mississippi Valley. Their Western Division opponents this year are Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Southern and Texas Southern.
The Bulldogs have scheduled four home games this season: Sept. 23 vs. Texas Southern (Louis Crews Classic); Homecoming is Sept. 30 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff; Oct. 14 vs. Mississippi Valley; Nov. 11 vs. Jackson State.
The nonconference slate features games at UAB, Vanderbilt and South Alabama.
The UAB game marks the rebirth of the Blazers’ football program. UAB canceled it at the end of the 2015 season but brought it back after a ground-swell of public outcry and support.
