Mississippi Valley State 103, Texas Southern 89 (OT)

Itta Bena, MS – Ta’Jay Henry poured in a game-high 30 points with 22 rebounds, Isaac Williams notched a season-high 29 points with 10 rebounds and Marcus Romain added 23 as the Delta Devils downed the previously undefeated Tigers 17-3 in overtime.

Williams nailed a 3-pointer with three seconds left on the clock shot and 53.5 seconds left in regulation from well beyond the arc to give Valley a two-point lead.

TSU’s Demontrae Jefferson made two free throws with 37 seconds left to force overtime.

Rashaan Surles scored six points in overtime and Henry added five points for MVSU (3-17 overall, 3-4 SWAC).

The Tigers (10-10 overall, 6-1 SWAC) were led by Kevin Scott, who scored 24 points and Zach Lofton, who scored 18 points and had six rebounds before fouling out with 5:43 remaining in the game.

Alabama State 79, Southern 65

Montgomery, AL – Tony Armstrong scored 17 points to lead four Alabama State men’s basketball players in double figures as the Hornets led from start to finish in a 79-65 victory over Southern on Monday night in a SWAC game at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

Armstrong was 7-of-11 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the foul line while Rodney Simeon and Reginald Gee each had 13 points for the Hornets (5-14 overall, 3-4 SWAC).

The Jaguars (6-12 overall, 3-4 SWAC) were paced by Shawn Prudhomme, who had 19 points and Jared Sam, who chipped in with 17 points.

Alcorn State 81, Alabama A&M 70

Huntsville, AL – Five Braves scored in double figures as Denzel Dullin led the way with 17 points, Marquis Vance scored 16 and Reginal Johnson added 13 for Alcorn State (8-11 overall, 5-3 SWAC).

The Braves shot 46 percent from the floor as a team including 15-of-18 from the free throw line as a team.

De’Ederick made 11-of-14 from the charity stripe and finished with 23 points for the Bulldogs (1-17 overall, 1-6 SWAC). Marcus Merriweather added 16 points.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff 71, Prairie View A&M 68 (2 OT)

Pine Bluff, AR – Charles Jackson came off the bench and shot 9-of-16 from the floor including 7-of-10 from downtown to score a game-high 27 points to led the Golden Lions (5-20 overall, 4-3 SWAC).

Joe Randle Tolliver made the winning 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining in double overtime for UAPB.

The Panthers (6-15 overall, 3-4 SWAC) received 25 points from Zachary Hamilton while Tevin Bellinger had 19 points and Troy Thompson added 18.

    I know one thing,My Alma Mater (J-State) for the third year in a row just doesn’t have what it takes to be Winners.We have got to get a Coach And players who can get up and go consistently and a Coach who can recruit right here in Jackson,Ms. and Metro.
