ATLANTA – Reginal Harris (Kentucky State) was selected as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Offensive Player of the Week and Deonate Gary (Central State) earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor, announced Monday by the league office.
John Pecaro (Tuskegee) was tabbed the Special Teams Player of the Week and Lavon Meeks (Central State) was selected as the Newcomer of the Week. Harris, a 5’6 senior running back from Miami, Fla., finished with 225 yards and three touchdowns in a 39-35 setback to Benedict on Saturday. Harris rushed for 195 yards on 18 carries and added a pair of touchdowns on the ground including a season-long 48-yard score. He averaged 10.8 yards per carry against the Tigers. Additionally, Harris caught three passes for 34 yards including another touchdown.
Gary finished with a career-high 17 tackles against No. 22 Southwest Baptist University on Saturday. The senior linebacker from Lakeland, Fla. also accounted for two tackles for loss and one pass break up in his final game as a Marauder. With Saturday’s performance, Gary also eclipsed 100-plus tackles in back-to-back seasons.
Pecaro punted the ball six times against Miles in a 13-10 victory Saturday night. The freshman averaged 38.3 yards per punt, including a long of 46. The freshman from Boynton Beach, Fla. allowed just two returns on the night on his four punts.
Meeks led the Marauder offense to a season-high 34 points against Southwest Baptist. Meeks, a 6-0 junior quarterback from St. Louis, Missouri completed 14-of-19 pass attempts for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Meeks also picked up a season-high 179 yards and two scores on the ground.
