Southern and Louisiana Tech have agreed to play each other in 2018 according to a Monroe News Star report published Tuesday.
La. Tech will host Southern in its season opener on Sept. 8, 2018. The game will mark the second time the two programs will have played since the first time La. Tech hosted Southern in 2015 before a crowd of nearly 28,000.
According to the News Star:
McClelland said Tech will pay Southern a $375,000 game guarantee, which is $25,000 more than the $350,000 paid for the 2015 meeting. Southern will receive 400 complimentary tickets and 2,000 tickets on consignment. The terms were agreed upon in a contract signed July 26, 2016.
“It’s what it took to get the game done,” McClelland said of the $375,000 game guarantee.
In a story first reported by HBCU Sports, La. Tech will host Grambling the following year in a game scheduled for Sept 7, 2019.
Grambling will receive a guaranteed payout of $300,000 and will be provided with 400 complimentary tickets, plus a minimum of 500 tickets on consignment.
The terms of Grambling’s deal with La. Tech were finalized on July 27, 2016, which is one day after the University of Louisiana System named Rick Gallot Grambling’s new president, who began the job on Aug. 1, 2016.
