From ball hawks to hard hitters, these are the HBCU defensive backs to watch in 2023

We present a rather long list of nominees for this week’s HBCU Sports Band of the Week honor.

The 11 bands nominated, some large and small, represent the MEAC, SIAC and SWAC conferences with unique styles that make them all worthy contenders for BOTW consideration.

Below are the nominees (listed in alphabetical order) with video of each of their performances.

Albany State – For its Oct. 1 performance against Miles College at Albany State.

Benedict College – Performed Saturday at the Dillon High School BTOB in Dillon, S.C.

Grambling – Performed at the annual State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas against Prairie View A&M.

Hampton – For its (Sept. 29) Thursday night halftime performance in Greensboro, N.C. against N.C. A&T.

Howard – Traveled to Norfolk, Va. to perform at halftime against Norfolk State.

Jackson State – Performed last Saturday at halftime against rival Mississippi Valley State.

Miles College – Nominated for its halftime performance Saturday at Albany State.

Mississippi Valley State – Traveled to Jackson, Miss. to perform at halftime against Jackson State.

Norfolk State – For its halftime performance Saturday against Howard.

North Carolina A&T – Performed at the half last Thursday (Sept. 29) against Hampton in Greensboro, N.C.

Prairie View A&M – For it’s halftime performance against Grambling at the State Fair Classic in Dallas.

Voting for the weekly honor will begin Thursday morning at 8:00 a.m. (CST).
