DALLAS – The head football coaches of Grambling State and Prairie View A&M kicked off a week-long slate of activities associated with the State Fair Classic Monday with a press conference at Dallas City Hall.
Saturday’s game between the Tigers and Panthers – both entering the game with 3-1 records – will feature two SWAC teams whose only losses are at the hands of two FBS Power 5 squads.
Prairie View fell to SEC member Texas A&M by a score of 67-0 back on Sept. 10, while Grambling lost to Pac-12 member Arizona later that day by a score of 31-21 after leading 21-3 at halftime.
“Everyone understands the magnitude of this game, we don’t need any added pressure,” said Panthers head coach Willie Simmons, jokingly, when speaking about the theme of this year’s game, “ I don’t know who came up with the theme this year, ‘Winner Takes All,’ the winner will take that game.”
Grambling head coach Broderick Fobbs thanked the sponsors of the event. He expressed the importance of their financial support and noted that HBCUs benefit from it.
