SWAC West Champion: Prairie View
Under then first-year head coach Willie Simmons, the Panthers finished 8-2 (8-1 SWAC) behind Grambling State in the SWAC West.[lasso align=”right” cart=”y” identifier=”B00QU1JDNS” locale=”US” tag=”hbcusports-20″ ref=”amzn-pvamu-panthers-large-new-logo-3×5-college-flag” type=”single” id=”71918″ link_id=”4910″]
Even though Prairie View lost All-SWAC running back Johnta Herbert from an offense that led the conference in scoring and total offense, the Panthers return senior quarterback Trey Green, who threw for 2,459 yards and 20 touchdowns.
In 2016, however, the Panthers will go as far as its defense takes them. Prairie View returns 10 starters from a unit that ranked sixth in the SWAC in total defense, holding opponents to 421 yards per game.
Three of the Panthers first four games are against SWAC foes before an Oct.1 showdown against defending division champion Grambling at annual the State Fair in Dallas, Texas.
The winner of that game will more than likely have the inside track to a berth in the SWAC Championship Game.
The Panthers were picked by the media to win the SWAC West. They sure have all the elements in place to do just that.
That’s one prediction (won’t happen) ; what about the rest of the SWAC ?
