HUNTSVILLE — Alabama A&M Head Football Coach James Spady welcomed nearly 90 players to “The Hill” Tuesday to prepare for the upcoming season.
The players reported to a full day of activities, including checking into their rooms and taking physicals. After dinner, Director of Athletics Bryan Hicks and Pastor Troy Garner spoke during a team meeting, followed by the players getting their A&M Maroon & White equipment. Camp got underway Wednesday morning.
The players took a 5:30 a.m. run to start their first official day as Bulldogs. After meetings, the players will hit the field at 3 p.m. for the first of 29 practices leading up to the Sept. 3 season opener at Middle Tennessee State.
They will practice in just helmets and shorts Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Thursday at 10 a.m. and “shells” (helmets and shoulder pads) Friday and Saturday (3 p.m. both days). On Sunday at 3 p.m., they’ll work out in full pads for the first time. The practices are open to the public.
The Bulldogs have two-a-day practices Aug. 8, Aug. 10 and Aug. 15. They are in full pads at 10 a.m. and shells at 3:30 p.m. each day.
The first scrimmage is set for Aug. 13 at 9:50 a.m. The other scrimmages are Aug. 20 at 6:15 p.m. and Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. as part of Fan Day.
The home opener is Sept. 17 when Prairie View A&M visits for the Louis Crews Classic. Kickoff is 6 p.m.
