Alabama State will attempt to compete a perfect conference season at the SWAC Baseball Tournament in New Orleans.

The Hornets enter the field with a 24-0 record in the SWAC and No. 1 overall seed after winning the East Division.

ASU became the first program to have that a record since moving to the divisional format in 2006.

Jackson State, winners of last two league championships, placed a combined five players on the All-SWAC team this season. JSU leads the nation in runs (482), third in on-base percentage (.422) and runs (8.6 runs per game) as well as fifth in slugging (.500).

SWAC East Capsules

Alabama State (34-15 overall, 24-0 SWAC )

Seed: No. 1

Player to watch: Carlos Ocasio hit 13 homers, drove in 58 runs and slugged .628 this season on his way to being named SWAC Player of the Year.

Jackson State (32-24 overall, 14-10 SWAC)

Seed: No. 2

Player to watch: Cornelius Copeland was placed on the All-SWAC first-team after hitting .421 in 2016.

Alcorn State (15-34 overall, 10-14 SWAC)

Seed: No. 3

Player to watch: Cedric Bell hit three home runs and drown in 25 RBI as the primary designated hitter for the Braves. Bell was a All-SWAC second-team selection.

Alabama A&M (13-42 overall, 8-16 SWAC)

Seed: No. 4

Player to watch: Junior Brandon Marsonek had a league-high five complete games to go along with 82 strikeouts.

SWAC West Capsules

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (21-23 overall, 16-5 SWAC)

Seed: No. 1

Player to watch: Skyler Henson complied a 3-1 record and only allowed 19 hits in 24.2 innings pitched which was good for being the conference’s Relief Pitcher of the Year.

Grambling State (22-25 overall, 15-8 SWAC)

Seed: No. 2

Player to watch: Daniel Barnett, the conference Newcomer of the Year, led the SWAC with 72 hits, finished the regular season with .416 batting average and tallied a .514 OBP.

Texas Southern (21-25 overall, 13-10 SWAC)

Seed: No. 3

Player to watch: Robert Pearson was tied for the SWAC lead with five saves during the regular season.

Southern (12-30 overall, 6-14 SWAC)

Seed: No. 4

Player to watch: Dondrayas Harris was tops on the Jaguars with a .361 batting average. He also led the team in slugging (.557) OBP (.488) and RBI (29).
