BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Grambling State’s Larry Barraza and Angel Alicea of Alabama State have been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as the Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for their exceptional performance in competition, April 26-May 1.

Barraza hit .500, going 9-for-18 in four games last week and helping Grambling State to a sweep of Prairie View. He collected four extra base hits, including a double and three home runs, 10 RBI, and scored six runs as he slugged 1.056 and had a .500 on-base percentage. He helped the Tigers outscore the Panthers 42-23 over the three-game series.

In his first career start, Alicea scattered six singles and one walk over seven innings of action to collect the win against Tennessee. For the season Alicea, is 2-0 with one save in 13 appearances including one start. He owns a 0.49 ERA over 18.1 innings pitched, allowing 14 hits, two runs (one unearned), five walks and 27 strikeouts.
