NEW ORLEANS (GCAC) – Dillard University forward Demetric Austin has been selected as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Jan. 17 – Jan. 23.

Austin, a junior from Washington, D.C., posted his seventh double-double of the season with a career-high 28 points and 10 rebounds in leading the Bleu Devils to an 84-74 win over No. 8 Talladega this past Saturday.

He currently ranks fourth in the GCAC in scoring at 19.1 points per game and is second in rebounding, averaging 9.5 boards per contest.  Austin has scored 20 points or more ten times this season for Dillard, currently tied for first in the conference with a 4-1 record.

This is the first Player of the Week award of his career.

Keith Williams Jr. had a team-high 13 points for Edward Waters against SUNO…Philander Smith’s Chris Ward tied his career high with 22 points and set a career high with 14 rebounds in the Panthers win over No. 21 Xavier…Dominique Suggs had 15 points, six boards, and six assists for SUNO in a win over Edward Waters…Talladega guard Jordan Washington averaged 19 points and 7.5 assists in two games…Quintarius Porter posted a double-double for Tougaloo, with 28 points and 10 rebounds against Xavier…Xavier’s Jarvis Thibodeaux produced his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 14 boards in a win over Tougaloo.
