NEW ORLEANS (GCAConf.com) – Edward Waters College guard Oceann Maddox has been selected as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Jan. 9 – Jan. 16.

Maddox, a junior from Daytona Beach, Fla., averaged 18.5 points and 13 rebounds per game for the Tigers as they picked up a pair of conference wins over Tougaloo and Philander Smith.  His 21 rebounds against Tougaloo set a new career-high.  Maddox shot 62 percent from the floor, making 13 of 21 field goal attempts, including 3-5 on three point attempts.

Oceann Maddox is the only player in the GCAC averaging a double-double (10.7 points, 10.2 rebounds). He leads the GCAC, and ranks fourth in NAIA Division I with 10.2 rebounds per game.  Maddox is the nation’s leader in defensive rebound average at 7.83 per contest.

This is the second Player of the Week award of his career.

Jesse Ward had a career-high 18 points for Dillard in their win over SUNO…Philander Smith guard Rashad Brackeen averaged 23 points in two games, including a career-high 31 in a win over No. 14 Xavier…SUNO’s Dominique Suggs scored 16 points for SUNO against Dillard…No. 8 Talladega got 18 points and two steals from Qua Doster in their win over No. 14 Xavier…Jarmell Anderson averaged 17 points and 7.5 assists for Tougaloo in two games…No. 14 Xavier’s Morris Wright scored a career-high 28 points, becoming the 15th player in school history to reach 1,300 career points.
