Jackson State Announces 2016 Football Schedule

JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State University Division of Athletics has announced its 2016 football schedule and the Tigers will have an 11 game slate of exciting action, five of which are home games at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

JSU (3-8, 3-6) finished an up-and-down 2015 campaign with its second straight losing season. The Tigers will open the 2016 season under new head coach Tony Hughes. The Tigers open the Hughes era against UNLV in the season opener scheduled for Sept. 3 in Las Vegas, Nevada. JSU will then travel to Memphis, Tennessee to take on non-conference rival Tennessee State in the Southern Heritage Classic on Sept. 10.

JSU will host its first home game of the season on Sept. 17 when the Tigers take on Grambling State in the W.C. Gorden Classic. JSU takes to the road for the third time of the season when the Tigers travel to Pine Bluff, Arkansas to take Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

JSU then returns to Jackson for a pair of home games. JSU hosts Mississippi Valley State on Oct. 1. Following an open week the Tigers return to action at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium to take on Southern on Oct. 15. The Tigers return to the road on Oct. 22 to face Texas Southern in Houston, Texas.

JSU’s homecoming game is scheduled for Oct. 29 and the Tigers will square off against Prairie View A&M. The Tigers open the month of November with a road game in Montgomery, Alabama against Alabama State on Nov. 5. JSU’s final home game of the season is set for Nov. 12 when Alabama A&M visits for senior day.

The Tigers will conclude the regular season on Nov. 19 when they travel to Lorman, Mississippi to take on the Alcorn State Braves.
