Texas Southern coach Darrell Asberry, who won just nine SWAC games in four seasons, told a Houston TV station

that he is stepping down to “pursue other options.”
“I appreciate Texas Southern and (athletic director) Dr. Charles McClelland for all that they’ve done for me and my family and the support they’ve given me,” Asberry said in a statement. “I’ve resigned from Texas Southern University to pursue other options.”
It gives me an opportunity to spend more time with my family, especially my son.”
Asberry, who spent six years at Shaw University before joining Texas Southern, was 12-31 overall and 9-27 in the SWAC in four seasons.
