MEAC Football Players Of The Week – Nov. 2

NORFOLK, Va. – Howard quarterback Kalen Johnson was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Offensive and Rookie Player of the Week, the conference announced today.  Teammate Travon Hunt earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

NCCU’s Desmond Cooper was selected as the Offensive Lineman of the Week while South Carolina State’s Antonio Hamilton was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

Johnson (QB, 6-1, 180, r-Fr., Pearland, Texas) passed for a career-high 219 yards, connecting on 14-of-20 passes with four touchdowns in Howard’s 55-9 victory over Savannah State.  Johnson, in only his fourth start, added 29 yards rushing with another touchdown on the ground.  In the team’s first win of the season, he recorded 248 yards of total offense with five touchdowns.

Hunt (SS, 6-0, 175, So., Lawndale, N.C.) returned a recovered fumble 31 yards to score a touchdown in Howard’s win over Savannah State.  He also picked off a pass and recorded four solo tackles, five total, in the victory.

Cooper (OT, 6-6, 325, r-Jr., Stafford, Va.) graded out at 94-percent of his blocking assignments as he shouldered the Eagles’ offensive line that accounted for 367 yards of total offense in the 24-16 win over Norfolk State.  He added five pancake blocks, without allowing a sack or committing a penalty, to help the secure the homecoming victory.

Hamilton (DB, 6-0, 185, r-Sr., Johnson, S.C.) returned a kickoff 89-yards for a touchdown in the Bulldogs’ 34-20 victory over Hampton.

Other Top Performers

Brycen Alleyne (DSU) recorded 117 yards of total offense with one rushing touchdown against Bethune-Cookman.

Kyle Archie (NSU) registered a career-high 14 tackles, two for a loss, against N.C. Central.

Dariusz Bladek (BCU) received a grade of 93-percent on his blocking assignments as he aided the Wildcats with 489 yards of total offense in a win over Delaware State.

Toree Boyd (HOW) graded out at 92-percent on all blocking assignments as he helped the Bison gain 352 yards of total offense against Savannah State.

Larry Brihm Jr. (BCU) ran 19 times for 141 yards with two touchdowns and completed 3-of-4 passes for 33 yards in the Wildcats’ win over Delaware State.

Tarik Cohen (NCAT) rushed for 163 yards, on 27 carries, with one touchdown in a 28-10 win over Florida A&M.

Greg Hankerson Jr. (NSU) tallied 319 yards of total offense including 230 yards through the air and 89 yards, with two touchdowns, on the ground against N.C. Central.

Javon Hargrave (SCSU) collected six tackles, five solo, with 3.5 for a loss of 16 yards, including two sacks for a 14-yard loss.

Uriel Hernandez (BCU) nailed all seven of his point-after attempts in the Wildcats’ victory over Delaware State.

Javarius Leamon (SCSU) recorded five pancake blocks and four domination blocks as he graded out at 93-percent on blocking assignments against Hampton.

Theo Livingston (NCCU) totaled 13 tackles, including one assisted tackle for a loss, with three pass breakups in the Eagles’ win over Norfolk State.

Dorrell McClain (NCCU) amassed 136 all-purpose yards, including 93 yards on the ground, with two touchdowns and three receptions for 43 yards.

Brandon Parker (NCAT) helped the Aggies amass 486 yards of total offense as he graded-out at 89-percent of his blocking assignments, with five pancake blocks, against Florida A&M.

Lamar Raynard (NCAT) passed for 115 yards (11-for-20) with one touchdown against Florida A&M.

J.R. Robinson (DSU) collected 13 tackles, nine solo, with 2.5 for a loss of four yards against Bethune-Cookman.

Jalen Simmons (SCSU) rushed for 135 yards on 21 carries in the Bulldogs’ win over Hampton.

Robert Way (BCU) finished with five tackles, three solo, with two for a loss against Delaware State.

Caleb York (SCSU) completed 14-of-26 passes for 172 yards with three touchdowns to help the Bulldogs’ secure the 34-20 win over Hampton.
